Black Cutworm
Moderate black cutworm migration risks are in the forecast for the next two nights as a very active and favorable weather pattern may lead to new or additional black cutworm moth flights especially across the eastern two-thirds or so of the corn-growing region. Moderate risks are predicted tonight into tomorrow across portions of Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. As a secondary low pressure system moves through the region later tomorrow into Sunday, Moderate risks focus across portions of the same states but focused further east, mainly along/east of the Mississippi River. The cold front does eventually move east especially by Monday and the overall system weakens, so only Low risks are predicted later Sunday into Monday mainly east of the Mississippi River. Growers are encouraged to monitor traps closely as new flights are likely in scattered areas of the corn-growing region in the next week, and also heat unit accumulations should be monitored from previous flights earlier this month, as well.
