Black Cutworm
Another low pressure system is predicted to develop in the Plains states and move northeast into the Great Lakes by the end of the week. South to southwest winds are likely to develop east of a trailing cold front, and may pose a primarily isolated black cutworm migration risk especially west of the Mississippi River tomorrow night into Thursday. As the system moves east, Low risks mainly focus along/east of the Mississippi River by Thursday night into Friday. The somewhat progressive nature of the cold front and weaker overall wind field is keeping the migration risk Low for now, but we will continue to monitor. Growers should continue to monitor traps and also check heat unit accumulations especially now with corn emerging in some areas and flights from earlier this month reaching or exceeding heat unit thresholds for new generations that could cause damage.
