Alert Details

Another low pressure system is expected to impact much of the corn-growing region over the next few days. From a black cutworm migration standpoint, this system does not look as robust as it did earlier in the week in terms of the magnitude of southerly winds. As a result, migration risks are being kept in the Low category mainly west of the US 51 corridor from central Wisconsin and Illinois and points west tonight, with the risk then focusing mainly along/east of the Mississippi River tomorrow night into Friday as a cold front moves east. Little to no migration risk is predicted this weekend as mainly west/northwest flow on the back side of the system takes hold before the next system moves in early next week. Growers should continue trapping efforts as well as noting peak flight dates and heat unit accumulations especially with newly-emerged corn in some areas now present.
