Black Cutworm
Low black cutworm migration risks remain in the forecast tonight into tomorrow mainly for the Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region, mainly along and east of the I-55 corridor in southeast Missouri and central Illinois. The overall weather setup is not quite as favorable for larger-scale flights, but some primarily isolated flights could occur in this region in the next 24 hours or so. Once a cold front moves through, little to no migration risk is predicted into early next week as northwest flow locks in. Growers, however, should not let their guard down as numerous documented flights have occurred in the past several weeks and traps should continue to be monitored and heat unit accumulations checked especially where corn has emerged and is at a vulnerable stage to damage.
