Black Cutworm
A rather strong spring storm system is likely to move through the corn-growing region over the next several days. South to southwest winds in advance of a strengthening cold front are likely and may lead to some isolated black cutworm moth flights over a fairly broad area from the eastern Plains region as far east as the I-75 corridor in Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky tonight into tomorrow. Moderate risks with a stronger and more favorable weather setup is predicted tomorrow night into Wednesday across eastern Illinois, Indiana, northern Kentucky, Ohio, lower Michigan, and also into southwest Ontario, Canada. Growers in especially the eastern half of the corn-growing region should prepare for another potential moth flight this week, and trapping/scouting efforts should continue where corn is emerging or will be soon, if not already.
