Black Cutworm
Low black cutworm migration risks are predicted Saturday night into Sunday and again Sunday night into Monday as a low pressure system moves through the northern portion of the corn-growing region. Southerly winds in advance of, or to the east, of a trailing cold front may provide the possibility for some isolated black cutworm moth flights initially mainly west of the Mississippi River Saturday night into Sunday. The risk may spread east as far as lower Michigan, Indiana, and western Kentucky by Sunday night into Monday. Growers with later planted crops, or re-planted crops, may be more impacted by any potential flights this weekend and should monitor traps and continue scouting fields until corn passes critical growth stages for black cutworm damage.
