Alert Details

Another low pressure system is expected to move through the corn-growing region over the next 36-48 hours. As it does so, southerly winds will be present to the east of a trailing cold front, but these winds are not expected to be overly strong. A fairly broad area of Low black cutworm migration risk is in place from the eastern Plains states as far east as lower Michigan, Indiana, western Ohio, and Kentucky and as far north as southern Minnesota and Wisconsin tonight into tomorrow. The risk then focuses mainly east of I-55 tomorrow night into Wednesday as the cold front moves east. Little to no risk is predicted after Wednesday as northwest flow locks in. The primary concern at this point with these new flights is with the late or re-planted fields that have corn that is either just emerging or has not emerged yet. Growers with fields in either of these situations are encouraged to continue to monitor traps and scout fields until the threat has passed.
