Black Cutworm
A weather system is expected to impact much of the corn-growing region later this week and into next weekend. At this time, there are still some uncertainties and details need to be worked out, but at least an area of relatively strong south to southwest winds are likely to the east of a cold front. These winds will be originating in a favorable black cutworm overwintering zone (Texas to Louisiana), so Low risks have already been introduced to the forecast beginning Wednesday night and continuing nightly into next weekend as the cold front moves east. Much of the corn-growing region is included in this risk from the eastern Plains to the Great Lakes, and migration risk upgrades may occur later this week once details become clearer.
