Alert Details

The corn-growing region weather pattern will continue to be active through the next week, and black cutworm migration risks will be on the increase as the next weather system develops in the Plains states and moves east later this week into the weekend. Southerly winds in advance of a cold front may allow for at least isolated black cutworm migration to occur tomorrow night into Thursday especially west of Lake Michigan and the I-57 corridor in eastern Illinois. It appears the best chance for more widespread migration may hold off until Thursday night into Friday especially along/east of I-35 to the southern Great Lakes region and eastern corn-growing region. A risk upgrade is being considered for tomorrow’s forecast once some timing issues hopefully resolve themselves today. Some lingering risk may continue in the forecast Friday night into Saturday but it appears the front may be far enough east by that time to preclude much concern at this point.
