Alert Details

All eyes will be on a potentially strong weather system that is expected to develop in the Plains states this weekend and then move across the corn-growing region early-middle of next week. Strong south to southwest winds in advance of a cold front are likely to lead to black cutworm migration events beginning as early as Saturday night into Sunday mainly west of the Mississippi River before spreading east into the Great Lakes region by Monday into Tuesday. Moderate risk upgrades are likely to be introduced to the forecast by tomorrow once confidence increases a little more in the exact placement of strongest winds and also where precipitation is likely to lay out. For now, Low risks envelop much of the corn-growing region during this period, with most favored locations for risk upgrades focusing along/east of the I-35 corridor. Stay tuned for updates both in tomorrow’s forecast and also Monday as this system unfolds.
