Alert Details

A persistent weather pattern is expected for much of the next week and likely beyond and is predicted to feature dominant northwest flow across much of the corn-growing region. The result will be that any more focused/stronger southerly winds which may produce at least isolated corn earworm migration events are predicted to focus across the central Plains states to the west of a persistent high pressure area over the southern Great Lakes and upper Mississippi River valley. For this reason, only Low migration risks are in the forecast beginning tomorrow night and continuing into the weekend especially across Kansas and southern Nebraska, but some additional risks also bleed into northern Nebraska, western Iowa, and western Missouri at times. Growers in these areas should monitor traps and scout fields especially given a more advanced crop stage in many fields in these states.
