Corn Earworm
Southerly to southwesterly flow is expected to increase later in the weekend and into early next week especially to the southeast of a developing cold front. Corn earworm moth populations are building in the mid-south along the I-40 corridor, and while field corn is not at a critical stage of growth at this point, fresh market and vegetable gardens may be more at risk if any flights were to occur. Low migration risks are predicted mainly south of I-80 in Missouri, southeast Iowa, central and southern Illinois, Indiana, western Ohio, and Kentucky especially from Saturday night into Monday morning. Several instances of documented corn earworm moth flights have occurred in late May in the corn-growing region in similar expected weather patterns, thus the risk being issued at this time.
