Corn Earworm
Corn earworm migration risks are in the forecast this coming weekend and into early next week as southerly winds increase ahead of a developing low pressure system in the High Plains/northern Rockies. Additionally, confidence is increasing that Tropical Storm Cristobal will make landfall in the southern United States somewhere between eastern Texas and Alabama, and this system may also result in additional corn earworm moth flight risks especially as we head into early-mid next week. Low risks, for now, are predicted mainly west of the Mississippi River Saturday night into Sunday, mainly in response to the developing northern Plains low, and then shift east to Lake Michigan and into Illinois by late in the weekend. Fresh market and garden growers should continue to monitor forecasts as these fields/plots/gardens would be at most risk at this point in the year as corn is not at susceptible stages to damage as of yet.
