Alert Details

A fairly strong low pressure system for this time of year is expected to develop in the central Plains and then move east through the heart of the corn-growing region by late week and into the weekend. A corridor of southerly winds to the east of a developing cold front south of the low pressure system may result in some isolated corn earworm moth flights initially from Texas north into Kansas, western Missouri, and as far north as eastern South Dakota and southwest Minnesota Thursday night into Friday. The Low risk then shifts east to mainly between I-35 and I-57, or from eastern Kansas, Missouri, and southern Illinois north as far as southeast Minnesota and southern Wisconsin Friday night into Saturday. Thereafter, the low begins to weaken and southerly flow lessens.
