Alert Details

A weak cool front is expected to work its way southeast through at least a portion of the corn-growing region later this week and into the weekend. Moisture is limited near this front, so only some scattered showers/storms are expected but a corridor of southerly winds, albeit somewhat weak to moderate in nature, is possible ahead of the front. These winds may allow for some isolated corn earworm moth flights into initially areas west of I-35 tonight into tomorrow with the risk spreading east to near the Mississippi River tomorrow night into Friday. Low risks continue in the forecast Friday night into Saturday as far east as into Wisconsin and Illinois, mainly west of Lake Michigan and the I-55 corridor further south. Growers with crops at susceptible stages to damage are encouraged to continue trapping and scouting efforts as some isolated moth flights are possible.
