Corn Earworm
Corn earworm migration risks return to the forecast later this week and into next weekend as the weather pattern transitions from a dominant northwest flow at the start of the week to a more zonal or even southwesterly flow. Given crop stage and present corn earworm activity in the mid-south and southern regions, it is becoming more likely that corn earworm flights will be on the increase in the coming weeks into the corn-growing region as hosts are less attractive in the source region and the increase in moth captures/presence in those areas may signify that moths are moving around a little more given less favorable local conditions. For now, Low migration risks are in the forecast mainly west of I-55/39 on Wednesday night into Thursday, but then expand across much of the corn-growing region mainly south of I-90 by Thursday into Saturday. If a more focused corridor of southerly winds can develop later this week, forecast upgrades are likely to follow so stay tuned for forecast updates this week.
