Alert Details

Low corn earworm migration risks return to the extended portion of the forecast after a relatively brief period of northwest-dominated wind flow this weekend. Southerly winds are expected to return to the Plains states as early as Sunday and Low migration risks are in the forecast mainly west of I-35 Sunday into Monday. The Low risks expand east as far as I-57 in eastern Illinois by Tuesday into Wednesday next week. Risk upgrades remain a possibility, but we will need to see what happens with Tropical Depression/Storm Fred this weekend and into early next week as this system may impact what happens in the corn-growing region. Growers all across the corn-growing region, especially those with crops at susceptible stages to damage, should continue to monitor traps and scout fields as some recent moth flights likely occurred on an isolated to scattered basis in the past week.
