Alert Details

As low pressure develops near the international border with Canada and a cold front begins moving southeast into the Plains and corn-growing region by mid-late week, corn earworm migration risks will return to the forecast as southerly winds increase ahead of the front. Low risks are predicted Wednesday night into Thursday mainly west of I-35 with the risk then spreading as far east as Lake Michigan and the I-57 corridor in Illinois by Thursday night into Friday. The overall pattern is not conducive to larger-scale flights as it was earlier in the month so only Low risks are predicted. Growers with crops still at a susceptible stage to damage, especially processing and fresh-market growers, should continue diligent trapping and scouting until the crop is past a critical growth stage or harvest occurs.
