Alert Details

Low corn earworm migration risks accompany southerly wind flow events ahead of low pressure and associated cold fronts periodically in the next week. Local to shorter-distance migration events from southern corn-growing region source regions may be observed across northern Missouri into Iowa, southeast Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, northern Indiana and Ohio, and lower Michigan tonight into tomorrow. After this first front moves through, there may be some influence from Tropical Storm Nicholas in the mid-south and southern states, so little to no risk for migration is predicted but by late week and into early next weekend, southerly wind flow commences once again and spreads Low risks back into areas mainly west of Lake Michigan at that time. Fresh market and processing growers with crops still at susceptible stages to corn earworm damage should continue monitoring traps and scouting fields until harvest.
