Alert Details

The weather pattern is predicted to be favorable for corn earworm migration especially over the next 24-36 hours with high pressure in the southeastern United States and a low pressure system in the far northern Plains/southern Canadian prairies and a cold front trailing south of the low through the Plains region. South to southwest winds are likely to be gusty in between these two features, especially west of the Great Lakes. Time of year and unfavorable crop stage, however, precludes higher risks at this time, of course, but some vegetables or very early planted crops may serve as hosts for later in the growing season so Low risks are included in the forecast from tonight into tomorrow mainly west of the Great Lakes given the favorable weather pattern. As the front moves east and low pressure decreases in strength, little to no risk rounds out the forecast for the rest of the week as wind flow decreases.
