Corn Earworm
The weather pattern is expected to change from the presently northwest-flow dominant to a more southwest flow by next week, and this will likely increase temperatures, humidity, and also corn earworm migration prospects in the presence of southerly winds. Low migration risks have been inserted into the forecast for the Tuesday night into Wednesday time frame mainly west of Lake Michigan and the I-57 corridor in eastern Illinois, and additional risks are likely beyond this forecasting period along with the potential for elevated risks as the prime time comes for moth flights. A few moths have appeared this week from flights late last week and weekend in some areas, so growers are encouraged to continue monitoring traps and scouting susceptible fields, and be prepared for increasing flights in the coming weeks.
