Alert Details

Corn earworm risks return to the forecast tomorrow night into Thursday and then through much of the extended period in the late week and into next weekend as a persistent south to southwest wind flow envelops much of the central and northern corn-growing region. Low pressure is expected to slowly move through the northern Plains region into the northern corn-growing region by this weekend, while a cold front pushes slowly east with time. Low corn earworm migration risks are predicted generally west of the Mississippi River tomorrow night into Thursday, and then expand east into the I-55 corridor in Illinois late Thursday into Friday, and then as far east as lower Michigan and northwest Ohio by this weekend. Growers with crops still at susceptible stages to corn earworm damage, especially fresh market and processing growers, need to continue trapping and scouting efforts until harvest.
