Alert Details

The primary focus for any potential corn earworm migration this week will be with a low pressure system that should traverse from west to east across the Plains into the corn-growing region. Due to a weaker or even non-existent high pressure to the east, the pressure gradient is expected to be rather feeble and as a result, southerly wind flow should be weak and focused more closely to the low pressure center. Initial risks are across southeast Nebraska, southwest Iowa, Missouri, and eastern Kansas tomorrow night into Thursday and then spreading east and northeast into more of the central and eastern corn-growing region later this week and into the weekend before the system moves out. Migration concerns, at this point, are mainly focused at fresh market sweet corn growers versus commercial field/seed corn growers at this time.
