Alert Details

Corn earworm migration risks return to the forecast by later in the week as a low pressure system begins to develop in the northern High Plains or into southern Canada. Southerly winds are expected to increase east of a developing cold front south of the low pressure system, and may pose a corn earworm migration risk especially west of Lake Michigan by later this week and into next weekend. Complicating factors come in with a potential tropical storm or hurricane expected to track into the southeast United States by Wednesday-Friday, and thus migration risks are focused mainly west of Lake Michigan for now but may change in subsequent forecasts this week. Growers with crops still at susceptible stages to damage, especially fresh market and processing crops, should continue monitoring traps and scouting fields as some corn earworm moths likely arrived in some areas in the past week and may pose new threats in coming days/weeks.
