Corn Earworm
Low corn earworm migration risks are predicted both Wednesday night into Thursday and again Thursday night into Friday as a cold front moves southeast in a predominantly northwest flow pattern. A period of southwesterly winds in advance of the cold front may lead to some isolated moth flights especially from eastern Kansas northeast as far as southern Wisconsin and east into Illinois and Indiana Wednesday night into Thursday. Additional flights may occur across the southeastern portion of the corn-growing region Thursday night into Friday as the front continues southeast. Fresh market and garden growers are encouraged to monitor traps ands scout those crops that may serve as suitable hosts at this point in the growing season as the threat to field or sweet corn is pretty low at this time given a less advanced crop stage.
