Alert Details

A favorable weather pattern for corn earworm migration is expected for the next few nights as robust south to southwest winds persist across especially the western and central corn-growing region. Despite an unfavorable crop stage for most field and sweet corn, there is a risk that fresh market and garden growers may be impacted by any moth flights the next few nights. As a result, we have issued a Moderate migration risk for portions of Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri tonight and into early tomorrow morning, and then across portions of Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and southwest lower Michigan tomorrow night into Wednesday before a weak cool front pushes through. Even later in the week and into next weekend, Low risks persist mainly west of the Great Lakes and along/south of I-90 as at least modest southerly flow continues. Growers with crops at or near susceptible stages to corn earworm damage are encouraged to scout those crops and monitor traps as new moth flights are probable in some areas this week.
