Alert Details

Moderate corn earworm migration risks are predicted tonight into tomorrow across portions of far eastern Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, southern Wisconsin, Illinois, southwest lower Michigan, and northern/western Indiana. South to southwest winds are likely to be quite gusty and originating in a known area for corn earworms in the mid-south, thus the risk of some scattered moth flights. While many crops are not at susceptible stages to damage (notably field and sweet corn), there are some fresh market and garden crops that may be at risk and the moths that fly in now may result in additional generations later this summer that could impact crops. Low migration risks are in the forecast later in the week especially west of the Great Lakes initially by late in the week and early in the weekend, with the risk then spreading east into the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region by late in the weekend as a more robust cold front moves through at that time. Only Low risks are predicted late week and into the weekend due to generally weaker and broader southerly winds.
