Alert Details

An active weather pattern is expected across at least portions of the corn-growing region this weekend and into early next week until a cold front passes through. Heat and humidity will build on increasing south to southwest winds, and Low migration risks are in the forecast tonight into tomorrow mainly south of US 12 in South Dakota, Minnesota, and eastward into central Wisconsin and mainly west of the I-55 corridor south into Illinois. Low risks continue in the forecast south of I-90 and west of I-57 tomorrow night into Sunday. Moderate risks for potential scattered corn earworm moth flights have been introduced to the forecast on Sunday night into Monday across portions of northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, and northern Illinois with Low risks extending from the eastern Plains states into the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region. At this point, Sunday night into Monday looks best for potential larger-scale migration, or at least more intense flights. Low risks then focus southeast of the cold front Monday night into Tuesday mainly across the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region mainly east of I-55 and I-57 in Illinois. With both field and sweet corn now tasseling at higher percentages and also garden/vegetable crops reaching critical growth stages, regular trapping and field scouting is recommended especially given the history of previous moth flights in the last several weeks.
