Corn Earworm
As southerly winds increase to the east of a developing low pressure system in the northern Plains and a trailing cold front to its south, corn earworm migration risks will also be on the increase as we head into the end of the week and especially over the weekend and into early next week. For now, Low risks are predicted mainly across the Plains states but also into western Minnesota and Iowa tomorrow night into Friday. By late Friday into Saturday, Low risks expand to the east and are into the Great Lakes region by Saturday into Sunday. As the cold front moves east by early next week, Low risks focus east of the front especially from the southern Great Lakes into the eastern corn-growing region by late Monday into Tuesday. There are still some disagreements with just how quickly east this front will move, and it is conceivable by the end of the week that some elevated risks may enter the forecast once confidence increases, especially given the likelihood that several days of southerly winds may be present in some areas, thus justifying a higher risk especially given crop stage and expected weather conditions.
