Corn Earworm
A more progressive low pressure system and attendant cold front is expected to move through the corn-growing region by the end of this week. Despite the quicker movement of this system, there are still concerns over at least isolated corn earworm moth flights to the east of the cold front as it moves east. Low risks are predicted tonight into tomorrow mainly west of the Mississippi River, with risks continuing especially between the I-35 and I-69 corridors tomorrow night into Thursday. By later Thursday into Friday, lingering migration concerns are found mainly east of I-55 across the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region. Growers with crops at susceptible stages to corn earworm damage, especially fresh market and processing growers in the northern reaches, should continue monitoring traps and scouting fields until harvest.
