Corn Earworm
A complex weather pattern is expected to continue across the corn-growing region over the next several days, with remnants of Tropical Storm Francine moving into the mid-south potentially resulting in some isolated corn earworm moth flights into the eastern half or so of the corn-growing region; and a low pressure system in southern Canada possibly resulting in additional flights in the western half of the area over the next day. Low risks cover much of the corn-growing region tonight into tomorrow, before mainly focusing over eastern areas tomorrow night into Saturday in association with Francine remnants. By the weekend and early next week, however, a more traditional migration pattern persists with Low risks on continued and persistent southerly winds mainly west of the Great Lakes. Fresh market and processing growers should continue to monitor traps and their crops until harvest as additional flights are still possible despite the calendar saying mid-September.
