Alert Details

Low corn earworm migration risks remain in the forecast for the next four days as rather weak south to southwest winds remain persistent especially across the southwestern and western portions of the corn-growing region. Tonight into Wednesday morning the risk area is primarily focused west of US 65 in Iowa and Missouri and US 71 in Minnesota and south of US 12 in South Dakota/Minnesota as low pressure organizes in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The risk shifts east Wednesday night and Thursday morning and includes areas south of I-90 and west of a LaCrosse, Wisconsin to north Springfield, Missouri line. By late week and into next weekend, the primary risk areas remain across the southwestern sections of the corn-growing region (mainly from southern South Dakota and Minnesota into Nebraska, western Iowa, northwest Missouri, and Kansas) where southerly winds should remain in place and may pose an isolated risk of corn earworm moths flying north from mid-south and southern Plains source regions.
