Alert Details

A potentially strong storm system may impact at least a portion of the corn-growing region early-mid next week. South to southwest winds are expected to the east of a developing low pressure in the central Plains states, but just where this system and its attendant frontal boundaries set up is still uncertain. Regardless, with enough southerly winds and potential precipitation serving as drop zone regions for any migrating corn earworms, Low migration risks have been introduced to the forecast for Monday night into Tuesday next week across the southwestern portion of the corn-growing region, mainly south of I-90 and west of I-57. A few corn earworms are already present in this area, and while the threat to any crops at this point is pretty negligible, these early flights can be important to track for new generations later in the growing season.
