Corn Earworm
Southerly winds are expected to increase across at least the western corn-growing region especially by late in the weekend and early next week in response to developing low pressure in southern Canada. Rainfall in Texas may be less, or at least more scattered, than it has been recently, so corn earworm moths may fly north into the corn-growing region on at least an isolated basis by Monday into Tuesday. As a result, Low migration risks have been introduced into the forecast especially west of I-35 and mainly from South Dakota and Minnesota southward. Host plants are in good shape in southern source regions given all of the rain they have been receiving, and crop stages are not quite at optimal levels yet further north so only Low risks are predicted at this time. Garden and fresh market growers with early maturing crops should monitor their fields/plantings in case any local migration event occurs.
