Alert Details

Corn earworm migration risks will be in the forecast especially along/east of the I-35 corridor tonight into tomorrow as a weak cool front moves east. South to southwest winds east of the front and especially east of any organized precipitation areas may result in some isolated moth flights into tomorrow morning. As the front moves east, so does the associated migration risk tomorrow night into Thursday. It appears the more favored corridor for migration is from far southeast Missouri northeast into the far eastern corn-growing region, especially along/east of I-69. By late week and into the weekend and likely into next week, as well, a heat dome is expected to develop across much of the corn-growing region. Southerly winds will increase and will be gusty at times. A classic corn earworm migration pattern is expected to develop across a large portion of the corn-growing region, but given time of year and unfavorable crop stage, only Low risks are being carried on a nightly basis especially along/west of I-75 for now. We may issue some elevated risks by the weekend or early next week in those areas that may see heavier flights once confidence increases especially with respect to placement.
