Alert Details

A cold front will be moving southeast through the rest of the corn-growing region over the next 24 hours. A corridor of southwest winds just to the east of this front may result in some isolated corn earworm migration events to occur especially along/east of the I-69 corridor into tomorrow morning. Once this front moves through, only a brief respite from the heat and humidity, and subsequent corn earworm migration risk is anticipated, as a large heat dome develops over the corn-growing region by late week and is likely to last into next week. Low migration risks are already back in the forecast by tomorrow night into Friday mainly west of I-35, and then the risk expands across much of the corn-growing region from the Plains states all the way east to the I-75 corridor this weekend and into early next week, and likely beyond the end of this forecast cycle (next Monday). While the threat to field crops is very low at this point given crop stage, garden and fresh market growers should be prepared for the potential for isolated moth flights over the next week.
