Alert Details

As an expansive heat dome develops across much of the corn-growing region over the next few days, corn earworm migration risks will also increase and be in the picture on a nightly basis through at least early next week. There is some uncertainty in just when the pattern may break down next week, but in the meantime Low migration risks are in place along/west of I-35 tonight into tomorrow, and then expanding east into the I-69 and I-75 corridors in Michigan, Indiana, and western Ohio by tomorrow night into Saturday. Low risks then remain in the forecast from the Plains states all the way east to the I-75 corridor through at least next Tuesday. Given an unfavorable crop stage in much of the corn-growing region and a generally healthy profile in southern United States source regions because of ample rainfall in that area, we are keeping the risk level in the Low category for now, but we have high confidence that some corn-growing region fields will see some isolated to perhaps scattered flights in the next week. Garden and fresh market growers are encouraged to monitor traps and scout fields/gardens as any host plants at a favorable stage for corn earworm damage will be attractive to new moths in the coming week.
