Corn Earworm
An expansive heat dome is expected to envelop much of the corn-growing region this weekend and into at least early next week. There are still some details to work out regarding how quickly, or not quickly, a cold front drops southeast into the area by mid-week next week and what it does to associated precipitation chances and insect migration risks. Regardless of these details, nightly corn earworm migration risks are in place especially along/west of the I-75 corridor through at least next Wednesday morning. Despite a very favorable weather pattern for corn earworm migration, several factors play into not upgrading to a Moderate/High risk at this time, namely lack of favorable crop stage in the corn-growing region, healthy crops in active southern state host regions, and lack of a full moon. Nonetheless, for fresh market and garden growers, trap monitoring is strongly encouraged as we fully expect some new flights into the corn-growing region in the next week.
