Corn Earworm
A rather persistent weather pattern is predicted this week with mainly light to occasionally moderate southerly wind flow across especially the western two-thirds or so of the corn-growing region. High pressure will remain anchored over the southeast United States while weak areas of low pressure will traverse the northern Rockies and into southern Canada. The resultant modest southerly wind flow between these two pressure centers may lead to some isolated corn earworm migration events especially along/west of the Great Lakes and south of I-90 tonight into tomorrow, with a slight eastward nudge by later tomorrow and into the weekend. It does appear that a stronger cold front, and potential weather pattern change, may push through much of the corn-growing region by late next weekend, which will end any migration risk for most. Fresh market and garden growers should continue to monitor traps and scout crops for signs of corn earworms in the days ahead.
