Alert Details

Corn earworm migration risks will continue on a nightly basis into early next week when a stronger cold front finally pushes through much of the corn-growing region. Southerly winds will focus mainly across the Plains states tonight into tomorrow, with a Low risk for some isolated moth flights possible. The risk then shifts east further into the heart of the corn-growing region by tomorrow night into Sunday as a cold front begins pushing southeast across the northern Plains states. By later Sunday into Monday, south to southwest wind flow will continue but is expected to become weaker with time, but a Low migration risk is still warranted from Kansas, Iowa, and southern Wisconsin south and east. We do see a break from the migration risk for a few days once this front moves through, but growers with crops in or near susceptible stages to corn earworm damage are encouraged to monitor traps and scout fields as some isolated flights have been documented in the past week to ten days, and more are expected over the next week once traps are checked today or the first of the week.
