Alert Details

Corn earworm migration risks return to the forecast by as early as Wednesday night into Thursday as southerly winds once again return to the Plains states, initially, ahead of a developing low pressure system and attendant cold front. High pressure and slightly cooler and drier air to the east will keep any migration risk across the central and eastern corn-growing region little to none until later in the week. Low risks do expand east to near Lake Michigan and into Wisconsin/Illinois by late in the week and next weekend, but some uncertainty does come into play regarding the strength and track of this late week system. Growers with crops at or near susceptible stages to corn earworm damage, especially fresh market and garden growers, but also some of the most advanced field crops in the southern corn-growing region that are now tasseling, should be monitoring traps and scouting fields as there have been several flights in the last week or so and some fields/crops may be impacted by these flights in the coming days/weeks.
