Alert Details

Corn earworm migration risks return to the forecast by Wednesday night into Thursday as southerly winds increase initially across the Plains states ahead of a weak low pressure system and cold front that should develop in the High Plains by that time. Wind flow is expected to be weaker than in previous weeks and only Low risks are warranted, especially with a northwest-flow dominated weather system. Low risks continue further east into Wisconsin and Illinois by Thursday night into Friday before the system departs to the east by the weekend. Growers across the corn-growing region should be monitoring traps and scouting vulnerable fields as some flights have occurred in the past few weeks with the possibility of another flight as recent as this past holiday weekend especially west of the Great Lakes region.
