Corn Earworm
A rather quick-moving weather system may bring some isolated corn earworm moth flight possibilities to the corn-growing region as early as tomorrow night into Thursday mainly across the Plains but also potentially a little further east into Minnesota and Iowa as southerly winds increase in this region. The system should become a little stronger as it moves east by the end of the week, and we anticipate that migration risks will focus from the eastern Plains region as far east as Lake Michigan and eastern Illinois by Thursday night into Friday, and finally across the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region, mainly along/west of I-75, by Friday night into Saturday. Southerly winds are not expected to be particularly strong and the lack of a longer duration of these winds precludes anything more than a Low risk at this time. Growers with crops at susceptible stages to corn earworm damage should continue to monitor traps and scout fields, however, as some new moths and/or generations may appear given recent flights in the past 2-3 weeks in some areas.
