Corn Earworm
A cold front is predicted to move southeast through the northern and central corn-growing region over the next 24 hours. South to southwest winds east of the front may serve as a corridor for migrating corn earworm moths, and Low risks are in place mainly for isolated flights from Kansas, Missouri, and southwestern Illinois northward as far as extreme southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, and southern Wisconsin. As the cold front continues east tomorrow into Saturday, the risk area shifts further east as well and includes fields from southeast Kansas into Missouri, eastern Iowa, Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and further east into southern lower Michigan, Indiana, western Ohio, and Kentucky. Little to no risk is predicted after midday Saturday as the front continues east and weakens. It does appear that a more progressive and active weather pattern may be in store for the next week or so, and we anticipate further migration risks to come back into the picture by next week once the present system moves through.
