Alert Details

A cold front will continue to move southeast through the eastern corn-growing region over the next 24 hours or so. South to southwest winds, albeit somewhat modest, will persist east of the front along with scattered areas of showers/thunderstorms that may serve as corn earworm drop zones for any migrating moths. Low risks are predicted mainly east of a line from east of Wichita, Kansas to near Milwaukee, Wisconsin tonight into tomorrow. This present system will not be of any further concern after Saturday, but we have already introduced Low migration risks in the forecast early to mid next week especially in areas west of the Great Lakes as the next weather system takes shape in the Plains states and sends another cold front through the corn-growing region by the middle of next week. Additional risks and potential risk upgrades will be considered as we head into early next week. Growers with crops at susceptible stages to corn earworm damage should continue regular trapping and scouting efforts and also consider possible treatment where it is warranted.
