Corn Earworm
Corn earworm migration risks continue with a rather active weather pattern expected across the corn-growing region in the next 5-7 days. Low risks are found in weak southerly winds to the east of a cold front moving from the Plains states into the corn-growing region tonight into tomorrow, mainly from Kansas, Nebraska, and southern Minnesota east as far as the Indiana/Ohio border. As the front continues southeast tomorrow into Thursday, Low risks continue to move east and are focused mainly southeast of a Wichita, Kansas to Milwaukee, Wisconsin line at that time. A brief break in the migration risk is anticipated late week before additional risks re-enter the forecast by Friday night into Saturday mainly west of the Great Lakes and then, once again, further east across the heart of the corn-growing region from Missouri, Iowa, and southern Minnesota as far east as into the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region as another low pressure system and attendant cold front move through. Growers should be regularly checking traps and scouting fields as we are seeing the potential for both new generations from previous flights appearing and also new migration events at the same time.
