Corn Earworm
An active weather pattern will continue into next week, with a general increase in heat and humidity especially for the central and southern portion of the corn-growing region by next week. Southerly winds are likely to increase west of Lake Michigan by tonight and into tomorrow, and Low migration risks are predicted from Kansas, Missouri, and southern Illinois north as far as southern Minnesota and Wisconsin, although better chances may focus along/south of I-80 due to more precipitation to the north. Low risks will continue to focus mainly in the southern half of the corn-growing region tomorrow night into Sunday as a weak frontal boundary traverses the area from roughly west to east. By early to mid next week, stronger southerly flow ahead of a cold front may result in more widespread and scattered moth flights, and Moderate risks are in place across portions of Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois Monday night into Tuesday and then a slightly further east focus Tuesday night into Wednesday roughly east of I-35 to I-69, including Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. Growers should be monitoring traps and scouting fields and prepare for the possibility of new flights arriving in the next week.
