Corn Earworm
Favorable conditions for corn earworm migration will continue later today into early tomorrow especially across the southwestern Great Lakes region where a Moderate risk is predicted. Portions of eastern Iowa, southeast Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, northern and central Illinois, northern Indiana, and southwest lower Michigan are all included in the Moderate risk. Low risks extend from Kansas, eastern Nebraska, and western Minnesota as far east as southern Ontario, Canada, Ohio, and Kentucky. A cold front will begin pushing southeast especially tomorrow into Friday, but may not get much further than I-70 before stalling and largely dissipating as the next system begins developing in the Plains states. Low risks are currently in place southeast of a Wichita, Kansas to north of Chicago, Illinois line tomorrow night into Friday, with Low risks then focusing west of Lake Michigan over the weekend and potentially into early next week. While we still expect some migration events this weekend, overall southerly wind pattern does not look as favorable for more widespread migrations compared to what we are experiencing this week but we will continue to monitor! Growers should be regularly checking traps and scouting fields as corn earworm pressure is already greater than usual in some areas for this time of year.
