Alert Details

Corn earworm migration risks are expected to remain confined to the Plains and western Midwest in the next five days as the weather pattern across much of the corn-growing region transitions to a predominantly northwest to southeast wind flow pattern. Low risks are in place tonight across portions of Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas as primarily weak southerly winds are likely to occur in this area. No risk is predicted Wednesday night into Thursday, but Low risks do return initially to Nebraska and Kansas by Thursday night and Friday and then expand northeast into South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri next weekend. Weak and loosely organized southerly winds preclude any higher risk at this time despite corn being at a critical growth stage across much of the corn-growing region.
