Alert Details

As southerly winds return to the corn-growing region by the weekend after a few days with largely northwest flow dominating the weather pattern, corn earworm migration risks will also be back in the picture. By Saturday night into Sunday, Low risks are predicted mainly across the Plains states but some risk could spread as far east as the I-35 corridor in portions of Iowa and Missouri, especially, as this process begins. Low risks then continue to expand to the east as high pressure moves into the eastern United States, with the risk as far east as the southwest Great Lakes by Sunday night and then fully into the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region by late Monday into Tuesday. Overall, the wind flow during this time is not expected to be overly strong but given the time of year, we have to be more aggressive with the risks even in more marginal cases as crops are becoming less attractive in the southern and central United States so moth migrations north may become more common.
